Råbjerg mile

A map of the Råbjerg mile showing its current position

Råbjerg Mile is a migrating coastal dune between Skagen and Frederikshavn, Denmark. It is the largest moving dune in Northern Europe with an area of around 1 km² (0.4 mi²) and a height of 40 m (130 ft). The dune contains a total of 4 million m³ of sand. The wind moves it in a north-easterly direction up to 18 m a year. The dune leaves a low, moist layer of sand behind it, trailing back westwards towards Skagerrak, where the Mile originally formed more than 300 years ago. Over 250,000 people visit the dune every year.

Here are two of my compositions from this unique and beautiful location:

A lot of patience and short exposure time (very short) ended up in these photographs:

Winter ending – Stockholm!

April 6th, 2010

A view of Stockholm from Essingeöarna with classic bridge – Västerbron and in the distance the central parts of Stockholm with Riddarholmen.

And below a sailing boat stuck in the ice near Långholmen, Stockholm.

The last remaining ice is melting away…

Room with a view!

Superb view from the top of the Åre mountain.

Unfortunately I had an extremely short visit this time to Åre.

Still happy with the end result of this one…

The Western Wall!

March 21st, 2010

This is one of the most important religious places for jews.

I have created a collage of 3 different photographs from this special place to symbolize how the religion can be effecting people of today.

The first one “Young and Old”, but both with the same strong belief.

The second one “Modern and Old”, all 3 religious and ortodox chassidic men in deep prayers while 2 of them seated on “modern” and simple plastic chairs.

Third on again with the same symbolic value “Modern and Old”. The man on the left wearing a Harley-Davidson jacket while the other ortodox chassidic man again in deep prayers.

There are lots of these “findings” in Jerusalem, Israel. A city which is very complex, deep and still so challenging. I love the city in spite of all the conflicts. So many religious fates have their place in this historic city. Today a modern sociaty is trying to find its way in spite of old traditions and religious fate.

From Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Wall

The Western Wall, sometimes referred to as the Wailing Wall or simply the Kotel (lit. Wall; Ashkenazic pronunciation: Kosel), and as al-Buraaq Wall in Arabic, is an important Jewish religious site located in the Old City of Jerusalem. Just over half the wall, including its 17 courses located below street level, dates from the end of the Second Temple period, being constructed around 19 BCE by Herod the Great. The remaining layers were added from the 7th century onwards.

There are small scribbled words on papers stuck into the wall itself containing personal prayers by the people visiting. Quite something really!

The Encounter!

Spotted at the market place – Mahene Yehuda in Jerusalem.

My favorite sweet spot of the city! :)

Selective saturation applied!

Chassidic man in Jerusalem!

The wrinkled man

February 20th, 2010

Found this characteristic old man at the entrance of the old city at Jaffo Gate in Jerusalem a year ago. Hope to find him again upon my next trip…

New Forest!

February 6th, 2010

Early morning at famous New Forest in the UK. This particular place is so powerful with its fantastic nature, landscapes and animals (wild horses).

I have always been fashionated by spiderwebs. I find them so endless, complex, still somewhat structured, fragile but yet so beautiful and challenging. Almost like a symbol for life itself…

This particular spiderweb was one of a series that I took one early morning (just after 5 am) while being on an inspiring walk at the large open field, near my hotel, when the spiderwebs were covered by the morning mist just before sunrise…

…and yes I decided to post this in black & white which fits this composition better IMO!

Lucky!

February 2nd, 2010

Visiting Teneriffe 2 years ago and managed to get this funny looking “painterly” shot.

The place is called Loro Park. A slight longer exposure time and feeding time for the fish gave this end result.

Yearning!

A few years back, near the city of Motala, in june time frame, I travelled by with the family and saw these wonderful rape fields.

The man with his umbrella in Retiro Park, Madrid

January 29th, 2010

One of my all time favorite photographs of mine was this one.

Photographed on a Sunday in the beautiful Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain.

He was so well dressed as from the old time of Spain.

The weather allowed his umbrella to come along while he was so nicely dressed this Sunday. Probably as nicely dressed as all Sundays before. Enjoy! :)

Untouched…

January 24th, 2010

Found this moody place  in the middle of the woods near the boarder between Sweden and Norway…

River in black & white!

January 23rd, 2010

Have been visiting Sälen together with the family on several occasions.

On one of those I took this photograph.

I have actually sold this photograph to a friend of a friend at the size of 1,5 x 1,0 meter:

Kittelfjäll!

January 22nd, 2010

After a full day on snowmobiles at the mountains of Kittelfjäll, Lappland we walked up this path.

This was actually voted as the best travel photograph of the week at the swedish newspaper of Expressen almost 2 years ago.

This day was unique in that we had blue sky and sun. It was shot at the end of the season (end of April, 2008).
